In 2020, the world erupted in one voice against police brutality fueled by racism after the murder of George Floyd, a black man, by a white police officer, who knelt on his neck for over nine minutes. His death was not the first like it, or sadly the last, but perhaps because the world was able to witness the entire cruelty of it, a nerve was struck like never before and an awakening was triggered.
Individuals, organizations and spiritual communities felt compelled to look at themselves and how they may be complicit in a system that allows such horrors to take place. While commendable and well-intentioned, some have discovered the challenges of antiracism work, and have given up after barely getting started. Ministers, clergy, spiritual and lay leaders have found themselves ill-prepared and ill-equipped to navigate this terrain, and that’s not surprising. We don’t know what we don’t know, and likely it wasn’t covered in seminary or your educational experience.
project_SANCTUS is here to help
We provide a range of Embodied Antiracism services to engage you and your community in creating a world of love, justice and liberation. We support individuals and groups with living, embodied antiracism and culture building practices that require endurance, agility, resource cultivation, stamina, discernment, self and communal discipline cultivation, embodied racial literacy and humility.
Antiracism Affinity Groups
To advance racial equity, there is work for white people and people of color to do separately and together. Affinity groups (sometimes referred to as “caucus”) provide spaces for people to work within their own racial/ethnic groups. The roots of white body supremacy run deep and are implicit to our experience. It’s from our embodied experience, therefore, that our work begins. Join our existing groups or we can lead groups just for your community.
Embodied Healing Circle
A system of oppression hurts both the oppressed, the oppressors, and even those who unknowingly benefit from the oppression. The Embodied Healing Circle is a safe and brave space to connect with the trauma, the wounds, the shame. In addition to sharing and deep listening, we lead participants in exercises to release the effects of the trauma from the body.
Book Groups
Join our 8:46 BOOK CLUB or we can lead a study exclusively for your community. We have taken a deep dive into several seminal works on the history of structural racism, and books on engaging in antiracist and somatic abolitionist work. When we talk about getting our Holy on, we mean individually and collectively. We are therefore committed to addressing the one thing that affects all of us, that has been responsible for much of the pain and inequality and injustice in our country… systemic racism.
Minister & Spiritual Leader Training
Feeling like a fish out of water when it comes to giving talks or leading conversations around antiracism? Let us help equip you with important tools around language, imagery, and other content so that your well-intended delivery does not have an unintended negative impact. We also help you examine your own relationship with white supremacy, because the work always starts with us. There must be an ongoing commitment from leadership to build knowledge, skills, and the confidence to begin discussions of power, privilege and racism. Belonging and justice work is messy. As ministers we are uniquely poised to support our colleagues with emotional, racial and cultural literacy, and with skills of compassion and empathy.
These reparations move forwards and backwards in time, repairing the impact our ancestors had on passing white body supremacy to our generation.
Simultaneously, in healing white body supremacy within this generation we break the chain and it is stopped from being passed down to future generations.
Connect with us today!
